13th c.. Sword Pommel
A large copper-alloy sword pommel of the medieval period. It is discoidal with rounded chamfers each side, and is of a type known as a wheel pommel (London Museum Medieval Catalogue 1940, Type VIII). It has a rectangular aperture at its base and a smaller one at the top for fitting to the tapered tang of the sword. After fitting, the protruding end of the tang would have been peened to retain the pommel.
